Welcome to the 2026 Interagency Games (IAG)!

Hello everyone, and welcome to the 2026 Interagency Games!
My name is Aiona Sumanasena-Wanigasekera, and I’m honored to serve as your Coordinator for this year’s event. I’ve personally played pétanque and know firsthand how the game fosters camaraderie — whether you’re competing or simply cheering from the sidelines, it’s a wonderful opportunity to connect with colleagues from across international organizations.
We look forward to welcoming you to the 51st UNIAG in Crete, Greece (6–10 May 2026). As always, play will follow the official rules of pétanque. For your reference, you can find the official rules here:

Court Setup
We have arranged sufficient playing pitches to accommodate all registered teams. Details on court assignments will be shared closer to the event.
What to Bring
To ensure you’re comfortable and safe during play, please come prepared with:
- Footwear: Sturdy, non-slip outdoor sports shoes — essential for stability on gravel courts and to prevent injury.
- Attire: Lightweight, breathable sportswear suitable for warm, sunny conditions. Quick-dry fabrics are highly recommended.
- Sun Protection: Crete in May brings strong sunshine. Please bring a cap or visor, UV-blocking sunglasses, and sunscreen (SPF 30+). Reapply sunscreen between matches — protection matters just as much off the court as on it.
- Hydration: Bring a reusable water bottle and keep it at your court. While we will provide water stations at the venue, having your own bottle ensures you stay hydrated throughout the day without interruption.
If you have any questions about the court layout, surface conditions, or accessibility, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Further details — including the full schedule and information about team captains’ meetings (including virtual sessions prior to 6 May) — will be shared in the coming weeks.
See you on the sand!
Warm regards,
Aiona Sumanasena-Wanigasekera
